Using a combination of the Cryptera lines of Encrypting PIN Pads, the Cryptera Generic Payment Application (GPA) and the Cryptera Payment API, payment network operators can customize their payment configuration to meet the specific needs of their customers. Here we profile three common deployment configurations using Cryptera products, although the amount of customization is endless.
Self-contained payment application
This application is the complete Crytera payment solution, combining Cryptera Encrypting PIN Pads, a card reader and Cryptera’s Generic Payment Application. The combined controller platform then communicates with the transaction host via API using the Cryptera Universal Controller Module (UCM 3200). Integration with target equipment takes place through a command protocol provided by Crytera. Cryptera provides integrators interested in the self-contained payment application with examples of driver implementation and support.
Hosted payment application
Cryptera’s hosted payment application is a scenario where the Cryptera Generic Payment Application exists on the self-service terminal itself. The application is a Java app that can be deployed on any host platform that supports a Java runtime environment. Communication between the transaction processor and network provider is also provided by the host platform, allowing reuse of facilities used for other purposes. Integration takes place through an object-oriented API, either Java or a Windows COM. This reduces the complexity of the integration workload on many projects.
Associated payment application
The associated payment application is ideal for integrators using a third party payment application in combination with Cryptera Encrypting PIN pads or other Cryptera payment devices. Typically this is the case if integration with a third-party payment application already exists or deployment of new payment devices with an existing magnetic stripe application is desired. This configuration can later be upgraded to the Cryptera Generic Payment Application when local specifications are ready. Should an integrator want to upgrade, Cryptera provides the serial command protocol and assistance for development of these drives.
